Calm control rooms for live shows
We design, build and operate production decks and control rooms for television and streaming teams. Our crews cut multi-camera shows from Brighton and on location.
ContactThe equipment and rooms where live shows are made
Live production is a craft of small, careful details: how a rack is laid out, how a feed is monitored, how an operator reads a screen. These scenes show the settings and tools we work with day to day.
-
Monitor wall in a compact control room
A well-planned monitor wall lets the director and vision mixer read every camera, graphic and outgoing feed at a glance. We plan screen placement around sight lines and the size of the room.
-
Vision mixer at the switcher
Cutting between cameras is about timing and clear instruction from the director. Our vision mixers rehearse transitions, graphics cues and replay sources before the show goes to air.
-
Equipment racks and cabling
Tidy racks and labelled cabling make faults quick to find when a show is live. We build and document every rack so that your engineers can understand the signal path later.
-
Portable deck in a flight case
For outside broadcasts and studio days, a portable production deck travels in flight cases and is ready to run when the crew has rigged power, cameras and intercom.
-
Streaming desk with encoders
A streamed event depends on a steady outgoing feed. The streaming desk handles encoding, signal routing and monitoring, so any problem is spotted before viewers notice it.
-
Training session on the switcher
Practical training puts your own operators on a real switcher, working through signal flow, show discipline and calm communication with the gallery.
A Brighton crew that treats live television as a craft
A live show goes well when the room is quiet, the instructions are clear and every operator knows exactly what comes next.
focusedix was founded in 2013 by Oliver Hartley, who has worked in live television galleries since the early 2000s. We are a small team of vision mixers, engineers and a streaming producer. We build control rooms, and we also run them when the show is live.
- Calm under pressure
- Clear communication
- Careful craft
From first call to the last minute on air
Every production begins with a conversation about what you need to broadcast and who will be watching. We then plan the technical side, prepare the equipment and crew, and stay with the show until the feed ends. Clients are kept informed at each stage.
Enquiry and brief
You tell us about the show, the venue, the number of cameras and where the feed must go. We ask the practical questions early so that the plan matches your real needs.
Planning and quotation
We draw up the signal flow, choose crew and equipment, and write a quotation covering what is included and what could change the cost. You can question any line before agreeing.
Preparation and rehearsal
Equipment is tested, racks are built or packed, and the crew rehearses cues with your director. Faults are found here, long before the audience is watching.
The live show
Our operators run switching, playout, graphics, replay and the outgoing feed while a producer keeps you informed. Communication stays short, calm and clear throughout.
Wrap and follow-up
After the broadcast we derig, note anything worth changing and confirm the final invoice against the quotation. Payment is by bank transfer.
Send us an enquiry about switching, a control room build, a streamed event or crew hire. We will reply with questions and, where it helps, a written quotation.
